I was born in Saigon, Vietnam and escaped on the US sponsored Baby Lift before the fall of Saigon in April of 1975. I grew up in Maryland in a little town on the Maryland, Pennsylvania border.
Growing up I was the oldest of 5. I had a good childhood. I was part of many recreational sports teams such as baseball, basketball, lacrosse, and soccer. I also did gymnastics, kung fu, karate, swimming and horseback ridding for a few years. Same as my brother and sisters. As you can tell we were very active.
I attended public school until high school. In high school I was one of few Asians that attended the local area Catholic school. After high school I moved to California to attend college. There I was for the first time among many different minorities. It was a welcoming experience and very much appreciated.
After living in California (Palo Alto), for a few years I moved to Vietnam to work in an orphanage. I always wanted to know what it was like to be Vietnamese and I also wanted to able to help those who were less fortunate than I was. Being back in Vietnam for the few years I was there helped me have a better understanding of who I was, where I had come from, and what I was made of. I lived and worked in Vietnam for three years before returning to my home state but this time to an area that had a lot of diversity.
I have held some interesting jobs. Not all of them were great but they served their purpose.
Currently I am a Staff Accountant working in Washington, DC while attending graduate school at night. I am happily married and have decided that I would give blogging a try to talk about the experiences that have shaped who I am and how they have shaped the personality that I have. Having grown up in a diverse family and by having diverse friends, this has allowed me to try and to experience different foods from different ethnic backgrounds.
There are a lot of things I like to do. I like to play video games when I have time, (I have a PS3 and a Wii), watch movies, hold dinner parties, go out to eat, cook with my family and friends, exercise, and watch television.
Of course I could write more about myself and perhaps I will later, but for now, I will end it here. I hope that this will give you a glimpse into my world and give you and idea of who I am.
If you would like to know more about me or just have a general question, please leave a comment and I will try to get back to you as soon as possible.
Thank you taking the time to read my blog.
